The new Chief of Staff for Environment and Natural Resources is Tom Schultz. Schultz has held executive positions in Montana and Idaho throughout his career, including directing timber procurement processes and supervising millions of acres of public lands.

The selection of Tom Schultz demonstrates his proficiency in land stewardship and timber procurement. As Director of the Idaho Department of Lands, he oversaw 3.3 million acres of endowment minerals and 2.4 million surface acres of endowment lands.

Before this, Schultz was in charge of the Trust Lands and Water Resources Divisions at Montana’s Department of Natural Resources and Conservation. His experience in government and forestry will be essential in making sure that the USDA’s 193 million acres of public lands are managed sustainably.
