Key Responsibilities

Oversee and coordinate the entire energy research portfolio along with the related research teams, ensuring the delivery of high-quality work that creates measurable value for Arup.
Track and consolidate insights from external energy research, Arup client engagements, and foresight activities to guide research priorities, opportunity identification, idea generation, and prioritisation.
Organise and deliver research ideation and knowledge-sharing activities, helping Arup researchers convert concepts into high-impact projects that support Challenge objectives and effectively communicate outcomes.
Collaborate closely with the Energy Challenge Steering Committee, skill leaders, business leaders, and client relationship teams to define, review, and refine research priorities while maintaining alignment across the portfolio.
Maintain and improve research delivery systems, templates, and digital tools to support efficient workflows, transparent decision-making, and stronger knowledge exchange within Arup and externally.
Strengthen internal engagement across both active researchers and the wider organisation to foster a strong culture of innovation, while also helping build external partnerships with clients and universities to expand the impact of research efforts.
Support the evaluation and communication of research outcomes, ensuring lessons learned and value propositions are documented and reused across proposals, client discussions, and service development.

Is This Role Right for You?

Experience in programme management within a research or innovation-focused setting, ideally with exposure to a mission-driven approach.
Proven track record of managing and delivering complex research programmes related to the energy sector.
Strong and current understanding of major energy research trends, emerging developments, and key sector challenges.
Experience in facilitating research ideation and supporting the successful development of high-quality projects from concept stage through completion, and ideally toward commercial application.
Strong planning, organisational, and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple parallel workstreams in a structured way.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships and networks across stakeholders at different seniority levels in large global organisations.
Ability to interpret complex information and convert it into clear, actionable narratives that communicate research value effectively, supported by strong written and verbal communication skills.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience is required; a postgraduate qualification would be an advantage.
