Managing Consultant-Energy Markets Full Time

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the origination, negotiation, and successful delivery of large-scale, complex consulting engagements within the energy sector.
• Drive business development initiatives by identifying opportunities, preparing proposals, and expanding client relationships.
• Monitor, analyze, and interpret trends across electricity markets, regulatory developments, and emerging energy technologies.
• Translate client business challenges into well-defined project scopes, strategic solutions, and actionable work plans.
• Prepare and present high-quality reports, client presentations, market assessments, and strategic recommendations.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships while supporting day-to-day engagement management and ensuring high client satisfaction.
• Develop, enhance, and apply analytical models, market simulations, and forecasting tools to evaluate energy prices, market dynamics, and investment opportunities.
• Validate analytical outputs through comprehensive data collection, modeling, database management, and quality assurance processes.

Core Responsibilities

• Serve as a subject matter expert on North American ISO/RTO electricity markets, including wholesale pricing, capacity markets, ancillary services, demand response, and transmission operations.
• Analyze the commercial and regulatory drivers influencing renewable energy, battery energy storage, green fuels, and emerging power generation technologies.
• Lead production cost simulations and economic dispatch modeling to assess future grid operations and market outcomes.
• Evaluate generation expansion and retirement scenarios using capacity expansion models across multiple electricity markets.
• Advise clients on power procurement strategies, renewable integration, grid reliability, and energy market participation.
• Support the development and continuous enhancement of market outlooks, reference case scenarios, and thought leadership.
• Mentor junior consultants by strengthening their technical expertise, consulting capabilities, business development skills, and client management experience.

Qualifications

Required

• U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident due to client engagement requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Energy Finance, Engineering, or a related discipline with 5+ years of relevant professional experience; or a Master’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience in consulting, strategy, project development, or the energy sector.
• Hands-on experience with power market simulation tools such as Aurora, PLEXOS, BID3, Origin, PSO, or similar economic dispatch and capacity expansion models.
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Proficiency in data analytics, modeling, visualization, and large dataset management.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with experience communicating complex technical findings to clients.
• Willingness to travel as required for client engagements.
• Ability to work from Guidehouse or client office locations.
• Must currently reside within the contiguous United States.
