Data Center EHS Engineer – Finland Full Time

Role Overview

The EHS & Security function plays a critical role in integrating environmental, health, safety, and physical security standards into the planning, construction, and operation of data centers and other mission-critical facilities worldwide. As an EHS Engineer based in Finland, you will primarily support data center operations across Finland while also contributing to the continuous enhancement of the organization’s global EHS framework.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation and governance of EHS programs by developing strategies, conducting risk assessments, audits, inspections, and ensuring compliance with both local regulations and global standards.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory matters, managing permits, inspections, incident reporting, investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate closely with Security, Facilities, Data Center Operations, Real Estate, contractors, and vendors to embed EHS requirements into project planning, construction, commissioning, and operational activities.
• Drive emergency preparedness and response initiatives, including emergency drills, response planning, scenario-based training, and maintenance of incident management systems.
• Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees and contractors while fostering a strong safety culture through coaching, mentoring, and leadership engagement.
• Support environmental compliance and sustainability objectives related to air quality, water management, waste handling, stormwater controls, energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and broader ESG commitments.
• Analyze EHS performance metrics and provide data-driven recommendations to leadership for risk mitigation, resource allocation, and operational improvements.

Site-Based Duties

• Manage daily EHS activities across assigned sites.
• Monitor subcontractor compliance with safety requirements and company standards.
• Review and approve Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
• Coordinate contractor activities to ensure safe execution of work.
• Conduct site inspections, audits, safety observations, and toolbox talks.
• Identify hazards, evaluate risks, and implement corrective and preventive measures.
• Ensure all activities comply with applicable regulations, project requirements, and safety standards.
• Maintain accurate EHS records, documentation, and incident reports.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum three years of experience in Environmental, Health and Safety within data centers or other large-scale industrial environments.
• Experience supporting and managing subcontractors on-site.
• Strong understanding of RAMS review and approval processes.
• Relevant health, safety, and environmental certifications or qualifications.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to work independently.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Progressive EHS experience within data centers, energy, manufacturing, or other high-risk operational environments.
• Experience working with colocation partners, vendors, project teams, incident management programs, or small team leadership responsibilities.
• Practical expertise in emergency preparedness, emergency response programs, job hazard analysis, and management of high-risk activities such as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and working at height.
• Proven experience delivering training programs to both individuals and larger groups of employees and contractors.
• Strong organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively and utilize digital reporting platforms and EHS management tools efficiently.
