Southern Taiwan is currently experiencing a catastrophic flood crisis due to an extraordinary week of rain that has exceeded the infrastructure, dislocated thousands of people, and led to extensive landslides. Southern Taiwan has experienced a year’s worth of rain in just seven days, with more than 2.2 meters of rain measured in some mountainous locations. As of August 4, 2025, the Southern Taiwan Floods have resulted in four deaths, three people missing, and 77 people injured. More than 5,900 residents have had to evacuate, and more than 2,000 have not been allowed to return to their homes.
