Targeted actions to lower energy prices for EU residents, companies, industries, and communities are introduced in the EU’s Affordable Energy Action Plan. The strategy seeks to reduce energy bills in both the short and long term by addressing the three price components: network charges, energy supply costs, and taxes and levies.
The strategy is anticipated to save €45 billion in 2025, with predicted increases to €130 billion yearly by 2030 and €260 billion annually by 2040. These steps strengthen the EU’s energy system and increase its resistance to future price shocks by combining immediate cost savings with structural improvements.
Supporting Renewable Energy and Grid Infrastructure
The European Commission is promoting the wider use of energy efficiency technologies to stop unstable gas markets from dictating power prices. By 2030, these initiatives might save up to €162 billion annually.
A key component of the EU’s Affordable Energy Action Plan is the expansion of renewable energy sources. The Commission will keep helping Member States roll out the required grid infrastructure and speed up the deployment of renewable energy sources. These investments are necessary to maintain long-term affordability and stabilize pricing.

Strengthening Energy Security and Crisis Preparedness
The European Union acknowledges that a robust energy infrastructure needs to be able to endure supply interruptions brought on by harsh weather, cyberattacks, or geopolitical conflicts. The EU energy security framework will be updated by the Commission to address possible dangers and weaknesses to improve energy security.
Furthermore, by boosting the proportion of locally produced renewables, encouraging deeper integration of energy markets, and strengthening gas market oversight, the plan aims to reduce future price problems.
One of the main components of the Clean Industrial Deal is the Affordable Energy Action Plan, which attempts to use decarbonization as a catalyst for industrial growth in Europe. The Clean Industrial Deal aims to create high-quality jobs and foster a competitive environment for European companies while also reducing energy prices.
