Furthermore, on Tuesday, coastal Karnataka and the nearby Ghat districts will probably see isolated, heavy to very heavy rainfall. Bengaluru rains have continued impacting daily life, with forecasts suggesting more weather disturbances.
The city observatory in Bengaluru reported 25.4 mm of rain, HAL Airport recorded 11.4 mm, and Electronic City recorded 31 mm. With 94.1 mm, Mangaluru had the most rainfall in the state. Mandya (24 mm), Mudigere (22 mm), and Chandurayanagalli in Ramanagara (20.5 mm) are some noteworthy rainfall readings.
Fatal Incidents Reported Amid Rain Chaos
Shashikala, 35, lost her life when a wall fell on her in the Whitefield neighbourhood of Bengaluru on Sunday after more than six hours of intense rain and thunderstorms. In the Mahadevapura police boundaries, she worked as a housekeeper for a software company. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah declared ₹5 lakh in compensation for her family, describing the tragedy as a cause of sadness.
Two people were electrocuted early Monday while attempting to drain floodwater from a basement in BTM Second Stage, in yet another sad event. The names of the dead were 12-year-old Dinesh and 63-year-old Manamohan Kamath. Police claim that when a pump set was turned on, a short circuit occurred, resulting in their electrocution. Traffic Woes and Waterlogging Disrupt Daily Life
Many parts of Bengaluru saw extreme waterlogging and traffic jams as the intense rains persisted. Due to flooded roads and malfunctioning signals, cars were stuck in lengthy lines on essential routes, including Silk Board Junction, Outer Ring Road, KR Puram, and Bellandur. During peak hours, commuters experienced delays of more than an hour. Several IT companies in tech clusters encouraged employees to work from home, especially in locations prone to flooding.
BBMP authorities reported that emergency crews were sent to clean clogged drains and remove standing water. Despite these efforts, the Bengaluru rains overloaded the drainage systems in several low-lying areas. Residents of Koramangala and HSR Layout reported power outages and flooded basements. Local companies also had trouble with decreased customer traffic and delayed deliveries.
