27,194 kg of garbage were recycled, 4,885 kg were composted, 2,826 kg of items, including team flags, were upcycled, and 207 kg of food were donated. Over 12,700 kg of rubbish were carefully separated into several categories and kept out of landfills throughout the season’s first three games. One hundred ten kilograms of extra edible food were provided to impoverished areas, 2,400 kilograms of biodegradable garbage were transferred to composting facilities, and 9,300 kilograms of recyclables were sent to nearby recycling facilities.

Infrastructure and Stakeholder Engagement

KKR placed 200 waste segregation containers around Eden Gardens to promote appropriate waste disposal among supporters. To help fans and keep the stadium clean, a specialized “Green Team” was placed throughout. The effort also included awareness drives and prominent anti-litter messaging to encourage participants to act consciously. Food vendors and catering employees were among the key stakeholders who received waste management training to guarantee efficient implementation. Food waste, paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, and aluminum foil were among the more than ten waste types the sorting crew handled before sending them to local recycling facilities and composting sites.

Leadership and Broader Sustainability Efforts

Co-owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Juhi Chawla, highlighted the significance of cricket in advancing sustainability, saying that the game can inspire and bring people together and that KKR sees it as a potent platform to do so. She emphasized that the club is making significant progress in lessening the environmental impact and motivating supporters to contribute to the cause with this waste management project. For everyone who contributed to the initiative’s success, the franchise thanked fans, sanitation workers, implementation partners, and volunteers. This initiative is a component of KKR’s broader goal of having a good impact outside cricket.

As part of their “Runs to Roots” promotion, KKR also introduced environmentally friendly jersey packaging earlier in the season. The packaging supports the team’s sustainability objectives because it comprises biodegradable materials. KKR launches green waste management at Eden Gardens, which is a central pillar of these efforts, reflecting the franchise’s commitment to sustainable sporting events.
