The Youth Eco Summit brought together young minds from across India to address one of the most pressing challenges of our time, the environmental impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and the broader issue of climate change. With participation from students representing 66 cities, the summit emphasised youth-led solutions, collaboration, and responsible use of technology for a sustainable future.

Organised with support from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, UNICEF YuWaah, and partners like TECNO, the Youth Eco Summit was not just a gathering but a platform for collective action. Students did not simply debate whether technology was good or bad; instead, they focused on understanding how it can be used responsibly and innovatively to address environmental challenges.

At the heart of the discussions was the environmental footprint of AI technologies, including their energy inefficiency and resource demands, and how future leaders can incorporate sustainability into the design and deployment of technological solutions. As Sridhar Vembu, founder of Zoho, highlighted, many advanced AI systems today are “extraordinarily energy inefficient,” underlining the need for change.
