To reinvent sustainable urban living, Hiranandani Communities and Krisala Developers have partnered with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) to build a 105-acre sustainable township near Pune. Under the direction of TERI’s experience, this enormous project seeks to establish new standards for ecological balance, air quality, and liveability in India’s quickly urbanizing landscape. The township will function as an “urban living lab,” incorporating sustainable design, building, and operating techniques to establish a conscientious real estate development paradigm through collaboration with VK Architects and VK Environment.

Pioneering Sustainability in Real Estate

According to Sanjay Seth, Senior Director at TERI and CEO of the GRIHA Council, TERI, a preeminent think tank in sustainable development, is entering the real estate market for the first time with this partnership. In an interview with PTI, Seth underlined TERI’s function as a knowledge partner to guarantee the township satisfies strict sustainability and liveability requirements. To identify essential benchmarks and design modifications, TERI’s sustainability experts organized a workshop at the start of the collaboration. TERI will help developers make well-informed decisions that balance environmental objectives and financial feasibility from the conceptual stage through construction and operations. To reduce its carbon footprint and improve the well-being of its residents, the township will integrate cutting-edge elements, including biophilic landscaping, EV charging infrastructure, outdoor air quality monitoring, and water and energy-efficient technologies.

Seth further emphasized how crucial consumer demand is to advancing sustainable development. He stated that consumer preferences might revolutionize the real estate industry and that “developers will respond if homebuyers prioritize sustainability and air quality.” The project intends to set a pattern for future projects in India by integrating sustainability at every stage and proving that environmentally responsible urban planning can be economical and viable.

A Vision for Future-Ready Urban Living

According to Krisala Developers’ managing director, Aakash Agarwal, the collaboration is essential to their goal of building a township that supports its citizens. For us, sustainability is the cornerstone, not just a trendy term, said Agarwal. In addition to implementing innovative techniques like microclimatic planning and dust suppression during construction, the project will protect natural resources, including vegetation and water bodies. These initiatives seek to guarantee climate resilience, enhance health outcomes, and provide people with long-term financial savings. With features like EV infrastructure and energy-efficient technologies to satisfy the changing needs of contemporary households, the township’s design prioritizes liveability.

In India’s real estate market, where sustainable urban development is becoming more popular, the township is positioned as a pathfinder thanks to its partnership with TERI to build a sustainable township near Pune. The developers hope to create an ecosystem that provides housing for individuals and promotes stronger, healthier communities by utilizing TERI’s experience. The project’s focus on ecological balance and creative urban design aligns with worldwide sustainability trends and represents a larger movement toward responsible development. This township may serve as a model for developing cities that put people and the environment first as India’s urban population increases.
