About the Role

As a Sustainability Program Manager at CBRE, you will oversee and drive sustainability initiatives focused on environmental performance, workplace safety, and operational efficiency across a largely leased real estate portfolio. This role involves close collaboration with landlords, internal teams, and service providers to implement sustainability and safety programs that support CBRE’s long-term objectives, including its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2040.

The role is part of the Program Management function and is responsible for planning, executing, and delivering sustainability and safety initiatives that align with larger business priorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional sustainability and safety programs from planning to completion using structured project and program management approaches.
• Work with landlords and property managers to implement sustainability initiatives across leased properties, including performance tracking, data gathering, and compliance efforts.
• Contribute to CBRE’s broader sustainability targets, especially its carbon reduction and carbon neutrality goals.
• Manage sustainability data and reporting across areas such as energy use, emissions, waste, water, and ESG performance.
• Prepare reports, dashboards, and scorecards for internal and external stakeholders to highlight progress, risks, and improvement opportunities.
• Carry out benchmarking studies to compare sustainability and real estate performance against industry standards and competitors.
• Oversee safety-related efforts such as ergonomics programs, workplace safety monitoring, and corrective action reporting.
• Design, implement, and track safety and sustainability programs to support continuous improvement and regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate with internal departments, landlords, and vendors to ensure deadlines, deliverables, and performance expectations are achieved.
• Track program performance, identify risks or challenges, and escalate concerns when needed.
• Maintain essential program documentation such as project schedules, status reports, Gantt charts, and work plans.
• Conduct financial, operational, and business assessments linked to sustainability and safety programs.
• Build strong working relationships with stakeholders, clients, landlords, and suppliers to support successful program delivery.
• Review business and technical information to generate data-backed recommendations and insights.
• Apply strong expertise in sustainability, workplace safety, and project management to create practical and scalable solutions.
• Offer informal guidance and support to project participants by sharing knowledge and best practices.
• Demonstrate CBRE’s RISE values, influence decisions, and build alignment even without direct reporting authority.
• Communicate technical or sensitive information effectively to different types of audiences.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, along with 5 to 8 years of relevant experience. Equivalent education and experience may also be considered.
• PMP or PgMP certification is preferred.
• Experience managing sustainability initiatives in a corporate real estate or facilities setting, especially involving leased assets, is strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of sustainability analytics, reporting, benchmarking, and ESG metrics is required.
• Experience supporting carbon reduction programs or long-term sustainability strategies is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with workplace safety and ergonomics initiatives is preferred.
• Proven ability to influence internal teams and external stakeholders, including landlords, without direct authority.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret multiple data sources and turn findings into action.
• Ability to think innovatively and challenge traditional methods when needed.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Strong organizational ability with close attention to detail and a curious, proactive mindset.
• Ability to handle moderately complex financial and quantitative analysis, including trend reviews, percentages, and performance measurements.

Compensation

For candidates based in Washington, the annual salary range for this position is $140,000 to $150,000, depending on skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition to base pay, successful candidates may also qualify for a discretionary bonus and benefits including 401(k), health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, and vision insurance.
