The renowned Ranthambore tigress Arrowhead passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2025, after losing her fight with bone cancer. She was eleven years old. Revered as a symbol of power, beauty, and domination in Ranthambore, her death marked the end of an era. Born in 2014, Arrowhead was the granddaughter of the famed Machhli (T-16), known for her unmatched hunting prowess and courage, and the daughter of Krishna (T-19). Guides, photographers, and tourists could instantly recognize Arrowhead by the distinctive arrow-shaped mark on her left cheek.
Over the years, she dominated Ranthambore National Park‘s core zones 2, 3, 4, and 5. She eventually inherited the territories of her mother and grandmother, the lakes of Rajbagh and Padam Talab. By giving birth to ten cubs across four litters, including the well-known Riddhi, Siddhi, and Kankati (T-2507), she made a notable contribution to tiger conservation. In a moment both tragic and symbolic of continuity, Kankati was relocated to Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve as part of a conservation effort just hours before her mother’s passing.
Courage in the Wild and a Final Goodbye
Arrowhead gained fame for her rare and fearless hunting abilities, particularly her skill in hunting crocodiles, a trait inherited from her grandmother, Machhli. Even during her final days, while unwell, she stunned observers by killing a crocodile near Padam Talab, a final testament to her strength and unyielding spirit.
In her final hours, she was seen moving slowly and resting beneath the trees near Padam Talab. Many were deeply moved by what appeared to be a quiet farewell to the wilderness. She often lay calmly near safari trails, offering visitors a last, serene glimpse of her regal presence. Her remains were later discovered near Jogi Mahal and cremated at Rajbagh by NTCA procedures. Forest officials, guides, photographers, and local admirers gathered to pay their final respects.
