On July 27, 2025, PM Modi praised Swachh Bharat Mission as evidence of India’s collective will in the 124th episode of his monthly radio show Mann Ki Baat. The project, which began over 11 years ago, has transformed cleanliness into a national movement, demonstrating that even the seemingly impossible can be achieved with a united effort. With millions of people participating in efforts to keep India clean and green, PM Modi highlighted that the mission’s ongoing relevance marks the country’s commitment to sustainable living.

A True People’s Movement

Motivated by residents who see cleanliness as a shared responsibility, the Swachh Bharat Mission has grown into a powerful public movement. PM Modi emphasized the annual Swachh Survey, which in 2025 involved over 15 crore individuals and was participated in by more than 4,500 cities and towns. He declared, “This is not just any number—this is Swachh Bharat’s voice.” Cities are adjusting cleaning programs to suit their particular requirements, from Kirtinagar in Uttarakhand, where creative waste management flourishes in rocky terrain, to Mangaluru’s tech-driven organic waste solutions.

The “Green Roing Initiative” revolutionized garbage management in Roing, Arunachal Pradesh, even repurposing waste materials to create a park. The mission’s overall influence and the strength of community-driven change are demonstrated by these regional initiatives, which spur national acceptance.

Women-Led Initiatives and Lasting Impact

PM Modi praised the Swachh Bharat Mission and emphasized how important women are to the Swachh Bharat Mission’s advancement. The 200-member women-led Sakaratmak Soch team in Bhopal has changed attitudes and raised the city’s Swachh Survey ranking by cleaning 17 parks and distributing cloth bags. While Panaji, Goa, sets a standard by separating garbage into 16 categories and winning the President’s Award, Bilha, Chhattisgarh, has been regenerated by women trained in waste management.

The Lucknow Gomti River team, which has been cleaning the river every Sunday for ten years, was also commended by the prime minister. These efforts mark the importance of maintaining cleanliness, which needs ongoing dedication rather than a one-time effort. According to PM Modi, “the country will remain clean only if we give it priority every day, every moment of the year.”

As it approaches its eleventh anniversary, the Swachh Bharat Mission remains a shining example of teamwork and creativity. India’s cities are leading by example, from water management in Karad and Vijayawada to riverfront cleanups in Ahmedabad. The mission continually transforms the country by promoting sustainable practices, empowering women, and fostering public involvement. By reminding us that maintaining cleanliness is a shared responsibility, PM Modi’s remarks in Mann Ki Baat bring India together in the fight for a better, cleaner future.
