What Semiconductor Projects are Being Developed in Odisha?
- Approval of two semiconductor units: Two semiconductor units have been approved by the government for Odisha in 2025.
- The SiCSem Project: SiCSem Pvt. Ltd., in association with Clas-SiC Wafer Fab Ltd., will establish India’s first compound semiconductor fab in Bhubaneswar.
- 3D glass solutions: 3D Glass Solutions Inc. (3DGS) will establish an advanced packaging and glass substrate plant.
- High-end applications: Both of these semiconductor plants are planned to provide high-end applications such as electric vehicles, defense, artificial intelligence, photonics, and more.

How Will These Semiconductor Plants Impact India’s Tech Future?
The new semiconductor plant in Odisha will generate tremendous monetary and advancement opportunities, and the SiCSem facility will produce approximately 60,000 wafers and 96 million packaged units each year. The primary use of these wafers will be for Silicon Carbide devices that are used in many high-performance sectors, and the 3DGS facility will manufacture 69,600 glass panel substrates and 50 million complete units each year. The projects will drive innovation in AI and high-performance computing applications for many companies. Both projects are backed by several international investors, including Intel and Lockheed Martin, and will create resiliency in India’s semiconductor supply chain.
In total, there have been over ₹1.6 lakh crore in investments made in the 10 approved semiconductor projects throughout the country, with an estimated 2000 jobs that will be created with this investment. Additionally, building this semiconductor facility in Odisha will help India achieve self-sufficiency in chip manufacturing and contribute to its long-term success in becoming an international leader in semiconductors.
