The Namma Bengaluru Challenge (NBC’26), an urban innovation accelerator created by UnboxingBLR, has begun its second season. Its goal is to address the growing climate catastrophe by utilizing technology and teamwork. The effort, backed by the WTFund, the Greater Bengaluru Authority, Social Alpha, and the Government of Karnataka, aims to transform Bengaluru into a “living lab” for testing and expanding climate-tech solutions. To enable Indian businesses to develop and test concepts that can have a quantifiable environmental impact, Namma Bengaluru Challenge 26 focuses on four key areas: waste, water, air pollution, and sustainable construction. In addition to incubation support and access to urban testbeds within the city to assess their solutions, the challenge winners will receive a prize of ₹25 lakh. Applications must be submitted by November 4, 2025.
Accelerating Urban Climate Solutions
Through innovation-driven climate action, the Namma Bengaluru Challenge 26 seeks to establish India’s startup capital as a model for sustainable urban growth. To turn ideas into tangible effects, the challenge provides companies with a strong ecosystem that includes government assistance, funding, and coaching.
Key highlights of NBC ’26 include:
- Focus on climate-critical sectors: Priority will be given to solutions that address waste segregation, clean water systems, air pollution, and green building.
- Pilot implementation support: Selected startups will have access to pilot zones and city-level datasets to test solutions on a large scale.
- Cross-sector collaboration: By bringing together academic institutions, business executives, and local government agencies, the program makes sure that innovation is based on practical experience.
- Financial and incubation benefits: Startups can leverage Social Alpha’s climate-tech incubation network for ongoing support for scaling, in addition to the ₹25 lakh grant.
This project builds on the success of NBC ’25, which involved deploying IoT-based air quality monitoring devices and prototypes for decentralized waste management in multiple Bengaluru wards.

Building Bengaluru as a Living Climate Lab
In addition to being a tech powerhouse, Namma Bengaluru Challenge 26 wants to establish Bengaluru as a “living climate laboratory” where infrastructure, governance processes, and public areas are all up for innovation. The competition combines citizen engagement with real-world data to create scalable, replicable sustainability approaches.
Core objectives of the program include:
- Citizen-centric climate innovation: Promoting community involvement to guarantee that solutions take into account the particular urban dynamics of the city.
- Public-private synergy: Making use of government organizations’ and entrepreneurs’ strengths to guarantee the sustainability of climate actions over the long run.
- Scalable, replicated models: The most successful pilots would serve as models for adoption in other Indian cities facing similar climatic issues.
- Technology for inclusion: Encouraging accessible and reasonably priced solutions that can be incorporated into current city processes without making inequality worse.
Innovators are being urged by NBC ’26 to rethink Bengaluru’s future as a resilient, sustainable, and climate-smart city, prepared to spearhead India’s green transformation, rather than just as a bustling metropolis.
