As the government accelerates the nation’s clean energy transition, India and Germany deepen renewable energy cooperation at a pivotal moment for global energy security. India has already achieved a significant milestone, with nearly 54% of its installed electricity capacity coming from non-fossil fuel sources, while renewable energy contributes around 26% of the country’s electricity generation. Against the backdrop of volatile fossil fuel markets and growing climate commitments, the two nations are strengthening their partnership to build a more resilient, sustainable, and energy-independent future.
The renewed commitment was highlighted during the tenth edition of the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP) Conversation Series, organized by the Indo-German Partnership for Green and Sustainable Development in collaboration with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

German Ambassador to India Dr. Philipp Ackermann emphasized that renewable energy is no longer just an environmental goal. It has become a strategic and economic necessity for countries seeking greater energy independence and protection from global fuel price fluctuations.
According to Ackermann, India and Germany share a common challenge: reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels while ensuring stable and affordable energy supplies.

India continues to pursue its ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, positioning itself as one of the world’s fastest-growing renewable energy markets.
