The global AI-for-energy mission just got a real boost, as the International Solar Alliance (ISA) kicked off a worldwide effort to bring artificial intelligence into clean power systems for all 120-plus member countries. They made it official on February 17, 2026, during the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi. With this move, digital infrastructure and citizen-focused platforms take center stage in the push for cleaner energy everywhere. This big announcement came together with India’s Ministry of Power, the Ministry of Electronics and IT, and REC Limited. The session really drove home how AI can shake up the way we plan energy, manage grids, and deliver services, especially in places where steady electricity is still not a given. For developing countries, that could change everything.
India’s Digital Public Infrastructure Model
India is presenting its digital public infrastructure model in the power sector to other ISA member countries as a model that can be replicated. Through developing interoperable digital platforms, India has connected consumers, utilities, vendors, and financial institutions so that the provision of energy services is rapidly enhanced, more transparent, and more inclusive.
Government representatives showcased India’s rapidly growing renewable energy sector with a specific focus on rooftop solar systems and technologies that have been developed to convert rooftop solar systems from small-scale pilot projects into large-scale nationally scalable programs, as well as the increasing use of artificial intelligence in controlling the flow of electricity and optimizing the operation of the electrical grid.

Report Emphasizes Citizen-Centric Strategy
During the summit, ISA published a report titled “Smarter and Citizen-Centric Power for Shared Prosperity: Unleashing the Potential of Digitally and AI-Enabled Power Systems.” According to the report, the adoption of clean energy and AI technologies has a mutually reinforcing effect, as clean energy drives digitalization and AI helps scale up renewable energy.
ISA Director General Ashish Khanna said that the world is witnessing a decentralized energy transition. As more people become producers through rooftop solar power, digitization and AI are the only ways to ensure equal access and sustainable growth.

Global Replicable Innovation System Models
Among all of these technology models that can be replicated around the world were the Digital Consumer Interface – One Solar App developed by BSES Rajdhani Power Limited, which provides seamless rooftop solar registration and transparency for net metering; and Digital Twin Solutions from start-ups, that allow utilities to simulate their distribution networks in real time for predictive maintenance and for planning the integration of renewable energy.
The following is an example of GIS-based distribution modernization projects created by Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited that use geospatial mapping to improve their ability to manage outages and optimize their infrastructure. The global AI-for-energy mission aims to provide AI-enabled clean power to communities at the grassroots level in order to help accelerate economic development, as well as achieve climate goals around the world.
