Experts have cautioned that the worst is still ahead, predicting that widespread areas could receive up to 20 inches of rain in the coming days, with some locations potentially seeing as much as 30 inches. The storm has already resulted in six fatalities.

According to PowerOutage.us, the numbers have since reduced but still leave a significant portion of the state in darkness. The utility company most affected is Duke Energy, with around 44,000 of its customers still experiencing outages. The company has mobilized 3,000 out-of-state crews to assist its Florida teams in restoring power. Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative follows closely, with 23,042 customers currently without electricity.

Hurricane Debby Transforms into Tropical Storm, Moves Northward

After making landfall as a hurricane, Debby has now weakened into a tropical storm. However, its impact remains severe, particularly in northern Florida, where it has caused significant flooding and claimed several lives.

The storm is now heading towards Georgia and the Carolinas, bringing with it the threat of torrential downpours and further flooding. Residents in these areas are being warned to prepare for a week of heavy rains, which could exacerbate the already dangerous conditions. Emergency services are on high alert, and evacuation orders have been issued in some vulnerable regions to ensure public safety.

Restoration Efforts and Future Precautions

Utility companies across Florida are working round the clock to restore power and mitigate further disruptions. Duke Energy’s large-scale mobilization of out-of-state crews highlights the severity of the situation and the urgent need for assistance. The focus remains on critical infrastructure and ensuring that residents regain access to electricity as quickly as possible.

As the storm moves north, communities in Georgia and the Carolinas are being advised to take precautionary measures, including securing properties and heeding evacuation orders where necessary. The aftermath of Hurricane Debby highlights the need for robust disaster preparedness and the importance of swift, coordinated response efforts in mitigating the impact of such natural disasters.
