Gujarat frequently experiences severe flooding during the monsoon season, with over 200 deaths reported in 2017 due to heavy rains. The recent floods have caused significant disruptions, with 48 trains canceled and transportation services affected across the state. The Saurashtra region has been particularly hard-hit, enduring nearly 48 hours of continuous rainfall. Locals have started hoarding essential items for daily usage due to a shortage of everything essential.
The IMD has issued a rain alert for 12 districts, including Kachchh, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Botad. Several districts in the Saurashtra region, such as Devbhoomi Dwarka and Jamnagar, experienced rainfall ranging from 50mm to 200mm within 12 hours. The highest rainfall during this period was recorded in Bhanvad taluka of Devbhumi Dwarka district, with 185mm.
