Wildfires in South Georgia have swept through communities, destroying many homes and forcing several hundred others and dozens of people to evacuate immediately as a result of these natural disasters that erupted due to dry weather conditions and gusty winds in rural areas near the Georgia-Florida border. Smoke from these fires has traveled hundreds of miles away; it has even reached Atlanta, creating very dangerous conditions for those breathing the air right now. Firefighters and other rescue crews are trying hard to put out the blaze, as local and federal officials are working together to contain this incident and help provide assistance to families affected by the wildfires.

Why Are Evacuations and Regional Impacts Increasing?
Hundreds of people have undergone both mandatory and voluntary evacuation orders due to the fire threat, and the schools are being shut down until at least the end of Friday, also for safety. Governor Brian Kemp has declared a state of emergency and is using resources from Georgia to respond to the emergency. Another smoke haze in Central and Eastern Georgia is due to a 4,000-acre wildfire located near Jacksonville, Florida, called the Railroad Fire. The state of Florida is providing additional support, such as National Guard members and rescue fire equipment.
Firefighters will continue to respond to ever-growing fire threats, as wildfires in South Georgia persist and dry conditions and inadequate containment of the blazes pose a serious, evolving threat that could worsen over the next several days, necessitating vigilance and emergency response efforts.
