At the centre of Musk’s proposal are solar-powered satellites positioned at a fixed point between Earth and the Sun. Their purpose would not necessarily be to block sunlight dramatically, but to make continuous, tiny adjustments to the amount of solar energy reaching the planet.
The satellites would use onboard AI to make these corrections in real time rather than relying on humans to issue individual commands. In Musk’s vision, an autonomous system could constantly monitor conditions and adjust the constellation accordingly, effectively creating a planetary thermostat.

Musk accompanied his proposal with calculations generated by Grok concerning future flooding in Florida. The figures suggested that roughly 5% of Florida’s land area, or about 6,800 square kilometres (1.68 million acres), could experience regular flooding by 2070 under a high sea-level-rise scenario.
He argued that humanity may have about 50 years to make major decisions before coastal living conditions change substantially.
Musk has raised a similar satellite concept before. In November, he discussed an AI-powered solar satellite constellation capable of making small adjustments to incoming sunlight to fine-tune Earth’s temperature.

The Bigger Picture Includes Mars
