Delhi received an ‘Orange‘ warning from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday as it awoke to heavy fog and poor visibility. At 5:30 a.m., the IMD observed calm winds and minimal visibility of 200 meters at Safdarjung and 150 meters at Palam. In addition to the unfavorable weather, the IMD predicts light to moderate rain or drizzle in certain regions of Delhi later today. The heavy fog in Delhi, combined with the predicted rain, might make the cold wave in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and the surrounding areas worse. At 8:30 a.m., the humidity was 97%, and the maximum temperature was predicted to be approximately 19°C.
Travel Disruptions Due to Dense Fog in Delhi
Over 100 flights were delayed Wednesday morning due to heavy fog in Delhi, but no cancellations or diversions have been reported. IndiGo reassured passengers in a post on X at 8:18 a.m.: “Low visibility and fog over Delhi may lead to some delays. We’re keeping a close watch on the weather and doing our best to get you where you need to be, safely and smoothly.”
Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL) explained that flights that do not comply with CAT III facilities may encounter delays even though takeoffs and landings are still happening. The airport’s technologies help prevent further interruptions by enabling operations in low-visibility situations.
“Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted,” Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL) posted on X at 7:35 a.m.
Moreover, the dense fog has resulted in the delay of 26 trains, with visibility levels plummeting to just 0.5 meters in certain regions, as per the IMD.

IMD Advisory for Caution During Travel
According to advice issued by the IMD, driving and traveling in foggy situations should be done with caution. Because of the low visibility, residents are recommended to utilize fog lights and refrain from making unnecessary trips. As conditions continue to be difficult throughout the day, the weather forecasting office advises taking all necessary precautions.
