China’s overseas renewable energy plant is being described as one of the biggest clean energy projects ever proposed outside a country’s own borders. The plan reportedly includes 1,000 wind turbines and millions of solar panels, to be built around 4,300 miles away from China’s mainland. China Takes Its Renewable Energy Experience Overseas
China has spent the past decade building some of the world’s largest solar farms, wind projects, and hybrid energy systems. Its experience at home is now becoming the foundation for international clean energy expansion.
In Xinjiang, China, a 3.5 GW solar plant was connected to the grid in 2024, spread across 32,947 acres and expected to generate about 6.09 billion kWh of electricity annually. The Midong project also features more than 5.26 million solar panels, showing the scale China can already execute.
