Assembly Protest Highlights Public Health Concerns

Atishi is the Leader of Opposition who led the charge, raising concerns about deteriorating air quality and citing city-wide AQI levels. In their speeches, they discussed health problems caused by highly polluted air, especially for children, older people, and those with pre-existing breathing problems. The photograph of a smog-covered Akshardham, where the AQI was nearly 300, clearly shows how some parts of Delhi are classified as “poor” and “very poor” in terms of air quality.

During their protest in the Assembly, party members demanded that stricter pollution control measures be implemented without delay. They wanted the authorities to focus on reducing emissions from vehicles and industrial units, and to stop the practice of burning dry crop residues in neighbouring states, which contribute most to the winter smog in Delhi.

Saxena’s address to draw attention to the pollution crisis. The Speaker of the Assembly accepted a motion to remove these members from the session for their disorderly conduct during the proceedings.

AAP leaders have slammed the BJP government for not taking sufficient steps and for inaction. In contrast, the government has argued that discussions and measures to address pollution should occur through constructive debate rather than agitation. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the session should be about finding joint solutions for Delhi’s growth and environmental problems.
