Uttarakhand is hosting the 38th National Games from January 28 to February 14; the event has been dubbed the “Green Games” to highlight environmental sustainability. Using certified green fireworks, solar-powered heating systems, and cloth-based branding rather than plastic are just a few of the environmentally responsible practices in place as the 38th National Games become green. Sports equipment and e-waste are used to create decorations and selfie spots. Cork coasters, bamboo water bottles, wheat coffee mugs, and recycled paper programs are examples of eco-friendly welcome kits for athletes. Furthermore, trophies, certificates, and medals are made from wood waste, e-waste, and biodegradable materials.

Symbolizing Sustainability Through Sports

The event supports the coexistence of contemporary sports with environmental concerns and complies with the theme “Sankalp Se Shikhar Tak” (From Resolution to Pinnacle). Ten thousand trees will be planted in the new park known as “Khel Van” (Sport Forest). A tree will be planted in the athlete’s honor for each medal they win during the competition. A 2 MW solar rooftop has been installed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium to lessen reliance on non-renewable energy. Players and officials are being transported in electric vehicles, significantly reducing the games’ carbon footprint.

Athletes from all around India will compete in 32 sports and four demonstration events at the 38th National Games.
