Within a global crisis uprising as of late, 2025 is declared the International Year of Glaciers (IYGP) by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to raise awareness and mobilize global action against the rapid decline of glaciers. Nations will be urged to include glacier protection measures in their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. Strengthening legal protections for glacier-fed water sources will be prioritized to safeguard communities dependent on glacial meltwater.
