Safety, Health & Environment Manager Full Time

Position Overview

AECOM is seeking an experienced Safety, Health, and Environment (SH&E) Manager to support a segment of its Environment Business Line across the United States. This role is part of a collaborative team of SH&E professionals responsible for providing strategic safety leadership and operational support to AECOM’s Design and Consulting Services operations. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, proactive, and adaptable, with the ability to respond effectively to changing priorities, assess operational risks, and support project teams in maintaining safe and healthy work environments.

This position offers a flexible remote work arrangement and may be based from various AECOM office locations across the United States, with preference given to candidates located on the West Coast or in Hawaii.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide visible leadership and active support for safety initiatives across assigned regions and operational teams.
• Evaluate and monitor safety performance at a variety of project sites, including civil construction, building construction, environmental remediation, and related field operations.
• Identify practical, effective, and sustainable solutions to complex safety, health, and environmental challenges.
• Lead incident management activities, including investigations, root cause analysis, corrective action development, and verification of implementation effectiveness.
• Review and assess project-specific safety plans, training programs, audit procedures, security plans, and supporting safety initiatives.
• Recommend enhancements to organizational policies, procedures, and programs that improve operational safety performance.
• Deliver safety training, facilitate workshops, and coach employees at all organizational levels to strengthen safety awareness and compliance.
• Support business units in achieving established safety objectives and performance targets.
• Lead meetings and training sessions involving diverse groups of employees, adapting communication styles to create engaging and effective learning environments.

Qualifications

Education & Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Professional certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).

Experience

• More than 10 years of progressively responsible experience in Safety, Health, and Environmental management roles.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, including OSHA, EPA, DOT, EM 385-1-1, Radiation Safety standards, NFPA 70E, and other applicable environmental and occupational safety regulations.
• Experience managing environmental compliance programs, including areas such as RCRA, DOT compliance, Hazard Communication (HAZCOM), and related requirements.
• Demonstrated success leading safety initiatives across geographically dispersed teams and multiple project locations.

Technical & Leadership Skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Experience working with data analytics and reporting platforms such as Microsoft Power BI and Power Automate.
• Proven ability to motivate teams, influence safe behaviors, and foster a proactive safety culture.
• Strong relationship-building skills with clients, subcontractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
• Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels, from field personnel and technical specialists to senior leadership and executives.
• Experience collaborating across functional teams and supporting operational business objectives through effective SH&E leadership.

Additional Requirements

• Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, including occasional overnight travel.
• U.S. Citizenship is required due to the nature of the work.
