Energy From Waste / Waste to Energy Specialist – Ramboll Energy Chennai Full Time

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Carry out fundamental thermal and process engineering for Waste-to-Energy (WtE) facilities, including energy recovery systems based on incineration technology.
• Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for complete WtE plant systems.
• Perform sizing calculations for WtE equipment such as boilers, auxiliary units, and balance-of-plant components.
• Apply heat and mass balance principles for full WtE boiler systems and energy recovery packages.
• Support the preparation of general arrangement drawings, including plan and elevation layouts, in coordination with drafting teams.
• Conduct steam-side and water-side pressure drop calculations for energy recovery systems.
• Demonstrate knowledge of waste combustion calculations, including fuel characterization and thermal performance assessment of WtE incinerators.
• Understand waste handling systems, including refuse handling, incinerator bottom ash systems, and mechanical rapping arrangements.
• Perform calculations related to Flue Gas Treatment (FGT) systems to ensure emissions control and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Advise clients on project cost estimation, project finance tracking, and cost control for WtE developments.
• Manage scope and cost variations effectively within complex WtE infrastructure projects.
• Coordinate with cross-functional engineering and competency teams involved in WtE project execution.
• Participate in project review meetings with clients and other key stakeholders.
• Conduct site visits and support clients during onshore project activities, including construction and commissioning stages.
• Attend technical review discussions with EPC contractors and subcontractors involved in WtE projects.
• Visit supplier facilities for equipment inspections and technical assessments of WtE-related systems.
• Carry out IBR and ASME-based calculations.
• Review designs and perform calculations for deaerators, fans, pumps, SCAPH, and other auxiliary systems.
• Lead technical bid evaluations and comparative assessments of vendor submissions.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university; a Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
• Around 15 years of experience in large industrial power projects, with significant exposure to Waste-to-Energy projects and related experience in energy systems, combustion-based plants, and environmental technologies.
• Proven background in project engineering and study execution, with the ability to independently lead and drive engineering activities.
• Strong technical expertise to handle and resolve complex engineering challenges, either independently or by coordinating with internal teams, EPC contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
• Proactive, structured, and analytical approach, with the ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary and technically complex assignments.
• Willingness to travel as required for site visits, supplier inspections, and client engagements.
• Ability to work comfortably with stakeholders across different regions and time zones, along with the flexibility to support project requirements beyond standard working hours based on the Chennai time zone.
