CNG price in Delhi increased by ₹1 per Kg from Saturday, May 23, marking the third hike in nine days and adding fresh pressure on commuters, auto drivers, cab operators, and public transport users. After the latest revision, CNG in Delhi is priced at ₹81.09 per kg, while Noida and Ghaziabad consumers will pay ₹89.70 per kg. The increase comes after earlier hikes of ₹2 per kg on May 15 and ₹1 per kg on May 18. State-owned oil companies have started passing on part of the burden of elevated energy costs linked to the ongoing Middle East crisis.
Revised CNG Rates in Key Cities
The latest price change affects Delhi-NCR and several other cities where CNG is widely used by commercial and public transport vehicles.
City |
Revised CNG Price |
|---|---|
Delhi |
₹81.09 per kg |
Noida |
₹89.70 per kg |
Ghaziabad |
₹89.70 per kg |
Gurugram |
₹86.12 per kg |
Greater Noida |
₹89.70 per kg |
Ajmer |
₹90.44 per kg |
The repeated increases are likely to be felt most by daily users of autos, taxis, app-based cabs, and CNG-run private vehicles. Since a large share of urban public transport depends on CNG, higher fuel costs may eventually be passed on to commuters through increased fares.

Why CNG Prices Are Rising
The latest hike comes amid wider pressure on India’s fuel market. The Middle East crisis and concerns around the Strait of Hormuz, a route that handles nearly one-fifth of global oil flows, have affected international energy prices and supply sentiment.
Oil marketing companies have also been under financial strain because they have been buying crude and fuel at elevated global prices while limiting the pace of retail price increases. Petrol and diesel prices have also been raised for the third time in less than 10 days, with Delhi petrol at ₹99.51 per liter and diesel at ₹92.49 per liter after the latest hike.

Impact on Commuters and Inflation
The CNG price in Delhi increased by ₹1 per Kg at a time when household transport budgets are already under pressure. For commercial drivers, even small fuel increases can reduce daily margins, especially when fares do not rise immediately.
Key likely impacts include:
- Higher commute costs: Autos, taxis, and cabs may eventually revise fares.
- Pressure on drivers: CNG-based commercial vehicle operators may see lower earnings.
- Inflation risk: Transport cost increases can feed into goods and services pricing.
- Household burden: Daily commuters may feel the impact if public transport fares rise.
- Fuel-saving behavior: Citizens may shift to carpooling, public transport, or reduced travel.

Government Appeals for Responsible Fuel Use
The Center has assured that petrol and diesel supplies remain stable and urged citizens to avoid panic buying. It said temporary pressure at some outlets is being addressed through coordinated monitoring by oil marketing companies.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also recently appealed to citizens to save fuel and use public transport more, as lower fuel consumption can help reduce crude demand and India’s foreign exchange outflows. For now, the CNG hike may look small on paper, but for daily commuters and transport operators, three increases in nine days make it a noticeable burden.
