That gap that you may have between when you check out of your accommodation and when you fly back can be a nightmare. If you’re supposed to check out of your hotel room, or your accommodation early, but then you don’t have a flight until the night time, this is not going to be ideal for you. You’re stuck with your bags, and you’ve got nothing to do…or do you? You don’t have to be stuck and just sit around at a cafe all day if you do not want to. Your last day should be spent however you want to, and we doubt that’s chilling by yourself. Get Up And About

The first thing that we’re going to recommend is that you get up and about. The last thing that you want to do is just sit down and stare at a wall all day. As such, it’s good for you to get out of wherever you are waiting for your flight from and start doing something. It doesn’t have to be anything particularly amazing; it just needs to be something.

Even if you just want to go and have a walk around the city, a town, a village, whatever you want. The goal is the same, no matter how you achieve it; all that matters is that you do.

Find Something To Do

So, we’ve suggested that you get up and walk around, see what you can find, and so on. But if you don’t fancy yourself as much of an explorer, then you should start looking for something to do instead. A quick Google search will give you a list of things that you can do in the local area, and you can use this list to determine what you’re going to be doing on your last day.

Of course, you can’t really do anything that is going to take too much time, so you need to think about that. You want to feel free and as though you are fully experiencing everything that this place holds for the final time for now, not rushing to fit it in. So, if you’ve got quite a bit of time, then we recommend you come up with a plan of the fun things you’re going to do that you didn’t do during your time there. You may not have time for them all, but you can certainly do at least one of them.

Use Public Transport

Another area we want to explore in our travel tips is public transport. Are you going to be using the country’s public transport system? A lot of countries will have transportation options that are different from what you are used to, which is why you need to research before you actually go there. If you don’t, then you might find yourself waiting for ages, wondering where the train or bus is, only for it to not turn up at all.

Public transport is unpredictable at the best of times, but we will say that issues seem to be more prevalent in some countries than others. It’s for this reason that you need to know for sure if you’re going to be renting a car or not, because if not, research is key.

You Don’t Need To Take Your Bags

One thing to bear in mind is that you don’t need to lug your bags around with you all day long. This can be music to your ears as it could have been something you were dreading. Look at somewhere like Radical Storage, where you can store your bags and leave them until you need to pick them up for the airport. Another option you have is to drop your bags at the airport the night before you travel. Of course, this will only be useful if your accommodation is close to the airport; it is a bit of a waste of time. Make sure you always have a small bag with any change of clothes that you might need throughout the day.

Ensure You Get Something To Eat

If your accommodation doesn’t let you stay on site when you check out, then you will need to source some food from somewhere. It may be that you can pay to eat in the on-site restaurants, or you can find an external place to eat. Eating in the local area could get you closer to the locals, and you never know, you might find somewhere to eat the next time you venture over there.

Eating in the local area can do wonders for your taste buds, enjoy that local cuisine and you won’t regret it. Before you book somewhere, check the reviews from previous visitors. You don’t want to eat at a bad restaurant before flying home, because the toilet can only cope with so much on an airplane.

Any Last Minute Additions?

Lastly, in our travel tips, when you have a long space between leaving your accommodation and flying home, you may go somewhere new and exciting. This could be somewhere you wanted to go during your actual vacation but didn’t have the time. You will need to pay for any and all excursions and activities, so be sure you have the money for this in your budget.

Consider the weather when you are thinking of what to do during this time. If you want to go to a zoo or play mini golf, for instance, then you don’t want to be wandering around in the cold and damp weather.

So there you have it, we do hope this travel tips article gave you some ideas and inspiration on what you can do between checkout and flying home. This can sometimes be a long gap, from early morning to late night, for instance. While many hotels let you stick around, some don’t, and then you are a bit scuppered. With the help and assistance of this travel tips article, you now have an idea of what to do and where to go that will pass the time.
