UP plans to plant 11.4 million saplings along roadsides from July 1 to July 7 in honor of Van Mahotsav 2025. Roadside Plantations: A Step Toward Greener Pathways

The campaign’s main body, the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department, has raised 524.3 million saplings in 2,586 nurseries around the state in preparation for Van Mahotsav. During the week-long celebration, UP plans to plant 11.4 million saplings along the sides of the highways. Enhancing the aesthetic appeal of public areas, reducing urban heat, and improving air quality are the objectives of this deliberate focus on roadsides. To ensure reasonable survival rates for the saplings, the department has ensured that nurseries are well-stocked with a variety of species suitable for the local climate. The state’s commitment to converting its infrastructure into green corridors that help passengers and the environment is demonstrated by this initiative.

Expressways and Inter-Departmental Collaboration

Along five main expressways—the Bundelkhand Motorway, Purvanchal Motorway, Ganga Motorway, Gorakhpur Link Motorway, and Agra–Lucknow Expressway—the Uttar Pradesh Motorways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) will plant 250,000 seedlings as a complement to the roadside program. In addition to helping sequester carbon, this targeted plantation along busy corridors will contribute to the development of more eco-friendly and sustainable transportation systems. The Forest Department is coordinating efforts to align resources and skills, and the success of the campaign depends on the cooperation of other departments. Following a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Mission Director Deepak Kumar emphasized that all preparations are complete for achieving the 350 million sapling target. This coordinated policy demonstrates Uttar Pradesh’s all-encompassing approach to addressing climate change and advancing biodiversity.
