The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts heavy rain alerts for 5 states in India. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Mumbai is expected to see continuous heavy rain. The meteorological service has issued a ‘yellow’ advisory for heavy rains in numerous Maharashtra towns, including Pune, Kolhapur, Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Nagpur, and Yavatmal.
According to the IMD, there is a heavy rain alert for five states in India, and severe rainfall is forecasted in parts of Maharashtra on Monday, August 5. This is due to a deep depression over southwest Bihar and bordering northwest Jharkhand, as well as a low-pressure region over southwest Rajasthan and the surrounding area. The districts of Pune and Satara have been issued an ‘orange’ alert due to severe to hefty rainfall.

There is also a chance of “hefty rainfall” in some remote city regions. Winds are forecast to gust between 45 and 55 kilometres per hour. Furthermore, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has already warned of high tides, projecting 3.17 meters at 5:22 a.m. and 3.52 meters at 5:14 p.m. Mumbai saw significant rainfall overnight on Saturday and Sunday, causing severe waterlogging in many parts of the city. The city has experienced significant rains in recent days.
The heavy rain damaged the Andheri Subway and flooded various locations, including those near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The torrential rain also caused significant traffic congestion on the Western Express Highway.
Earlier, Mumbai’s civic authorities recommended that citizens stay indoors unless necessary following the IMD’s advisory for the city, which predicted severe to very heavy rain.
Raigad and Ratnagiri are on ‘red alert’ since the weather agency predicts exceptionally heavy rain. The India Meteorological Department has issued heavy rain alerts for 5 states in India and a ‘red alert’ for Kolhapur, Satara, and Sindhudurg, predicting extremely heavy rainfall in these areas.
According to the IMD, Satara and Kolhapur may have exceptionally heavy rainfall in isolated ghat areas and moderate rain in the plains. The rest of the state is on ‘yellow alert.’
This forecast emphasises the possibility of heavy rainfall, advising households and authorities to take essential steps to reduce dangers such as floods and waterlogging. The message serves as a timely reminder of the necessity of being prepared and vigilant throughout the rainy season. Heavy rains can be efficiently handled by providing regular updates and taking proactive actions to ensure the safety and well-being of affected people. Residents are advised to be informed and follow the IMD’s recommendations for a safe monsoon season.
