Hempitecture makes building insulation from plant fibre, principally hemp, as a lower-embodied-carbon alternative to conventional thermal insulation. Production is based in Jerome, Idaho, with distribution warehouses across the United States.
Hemp grows quickly and stores carbon as it does, so a plant-fibre insulation can hold carbon in the building fabric rather than releasing it during manufacture. The materials are also handled without the protective equipment mineral fibre usually requires, which matters on a working site.
